Parent Communication Survey

Loreto Normanhurst is committed to ongoing review and evaluation of all aspects of our learning community in order to best meet the needs of our students and families. Based on ongoing feedback we have received, we are currently evaluating the platforms and procedures relating to communication and would like to hear from our parents about how we can streamline and improve the communication experience with the School.

We would appreciate you completing this anonymous survey by 30 October if you have not already. The survey is expected to take no more than 10 minutes.

ACCESS LORETO NORMANHURST PARENT COMMUNICATION SURVEY HERE

Once completed, the results of the survey will be analysed and will be used to determine priorities and actions for the improvement of our communication tools and landscape. More specifically, the results will help to guide the development of an upgraded Parent Portal, which is currently under evaluation.

Thank you in advance for your assistance in creating a better communication experience for our community.

6D Persuasive Writing Activity

When we stepped into the classroom we were overcome with shock and confusion, our chairs were on strike! After some very deep and thoughtful contemplating we concluded that it was imperative that we write them all a persuasive letter, apologising for our reckless and inconsiderate behaviour towards them and beg for them to come back to us with some new conditions that were more inclusive. Charlotte H-S

Resignation letter from ‘Red Chair’ to 6D

My dearest 6D,

It is with great sadness and remorse that I, red chair, must quit your seat for the foreseeable future. You see Year 6; I am just feeling too down in the dumps about how you never consider my feelings. I like things a certain way and you just don't seem to have picked up on it. For example, a good hard-working chair like me deserves to be tucked in once in a while. When I am left stranded halfway across the classroom whilst you dash away to specialist lessons and out to lunchtime, barely remembering that I exist, it hurts my feelings you know. Not to mention my back legs are KILLING me because some of you like to swing on me, even when your lovely teachers tell you otherwise. Didn't you ever hear of the girl who swung on her chair and fell off and split her head open? It is the stuff of legends! Do not think I will be driving your sorry selves to the hospital. This is in your best interest, as you have not learned. I am sure that this will not be an inconvenience to you as, since the flexible furniture arrived, I have been constantly overlooked.

Alas, I know it is not to be. I am DONE!

Goodbye.

Signed,
Red Chair

Read some of our students persuasive letter responses below.

Dearest, greatest, most fabulous, awesome, amazing, spectacular, beautiful, generous, sincere, thoughtful, loyal Red Chair.

Please come back to us! We beg you! We can't survive without you! We promise we will tuck you in and never leave you stranded in the middle of the classroom. We will love you like our own family. We pledge to keep you clean and massage you when you feel stressed.

We vow to name you and give you a personality. We will talk to you everyday and respect you. We will freshen you by cleaning you when you are feeling down.

We all agree to never treat you like our playground again, Red Chair. We will never neglect you for the flexible furniture and you deserve the whole world.

You will never be forgotten in our hearts. We promise to never hurt your feelings and never hurt you. We will love you forever and ever, Red Chair.

Yours very sincerely

Joy, Charlie, Cleo and Sophie

Dear Honorable Red Chairs,

Chair 1, Bobett, Corona and Rue,

We are so terribly sorry for making you feel this way. We feel so guilty for making you want to give up! From now on, we will give you all the respect you deserve - which is a lot! We will now tuck you in with all the respect and care you deserve everyday, and we will all make sure it isn't done harshly or rudely. After all we are so lucky to have you and making sure you are tucked in is the least we can do.

We will also sit on you more. We are sorry for making you feel disrespected and unvalued. We will now use you much more often, as we didn't realise that you were feeling like you were not as important as the flexible furniture - which you are. The flexible furniture is so overrated anyway (don't tell the rainbow).

We won't swing on you, as you are clearly hurt by this seemingly innocent action. It is obvious that this is hurting your poor back legs, and we will definitely stop so you can make a full recovery. We will sit on you properly so you are comfortable. We will discontinue this horrible habit. If it makes you feel better, we can pay for your next 3 physiotherapy sessions or massage sessions.

We promise to do this so that we can cure your internal sadness of being described and discriminatively labelled as 'Chair' as we have now realised how much hatred and pain you've gone through these years ever since you were brought to Loreto Normanhurst just to be disrespected.

We are experiencing extreme regret and sadness. Please, beautiful and humble chairs, come back to us! We are so sorry for making you feel uncomfortable and lonely. We will be so honoured to have you back, so please do.

Adhithi, Jamie, Cassidy and Murphy

Dear our beloved red chairs,

It breaks out souls that you left because of our horrendous behaviour. Now we realise how important you are to us. We suddenly see your eminence in our learning journey and respect all the things that you do for your rights and responsibilities. We are forever grateful for all you do for us and promise to cherish this connection and build on it. We promise to tuck you on every afternoon, to not swing on you and value you.

As a red chair, you provide us with seating, which means when we are using you our gluteus maximus is comfortable. Unfortunately, we now see that we are not treating you fairly by leaving you untucked either overnight, just before lunch or during specialist lessons. Our mistakes must be corrected, and we will properly tuck you in, leaving one of your precious legs on the outside, so you have space to be yourself and not get too stuffy next to your other red chair buddy. We will all try our absolute best to remember to tuck you in.

Now that we tuck you in, we also need to remind ourselves not to swing on you. This unkind action must cause agony on your back legs. We sincerely feel for you and want to improve your living conditions. We feel so strongly about this issue, we are even offering you leg massages to prove our appreciation for you. We assure you that our behaviour will improve once we return to school, and we will see you in a new light. This is another reason 6D students vehemently believe we will take better care of you next term.

We deeply regret calling you 'chair'. We feel that you deserve so much more than that. From now on we will call you by your proper names chosen for you and give you name tags, so we don't forget. From now on you can be sure that we will respect you and give you opportunities to talk to us and share your thoughts with us on how we can improve and make your lives more enjoyable for you and us. This means our respect for you will build and we can become lifelong friends.

When we realised you weren't here, 6D nearly cried. We deeply manifested every moment we shared with you and hope we can bring back the good memories to restore our relationship and peace. We vow to gently tuck you in, keep you still with all your legs on the ground and not ditching you for the flexible furniture every time. We want you back. We want you here. We need you with use. It is vital that all of the red chairs return to us, as our learning and life depends on you.

LOTS OF LOVE

Alannah, Zara, Stephanie and Ruby

Baby Shark Tank Expo

Baby Shark Tank was a great way to experience everyone’s imagination and creativity. It was another level of fun as everyone showed their unique presentations and some even had a diorama explaining their idea! Everyone connected and really showed collaboration within their group. Even if you didn't get through the first round, everyone still got to show off their ideas to help the community around us. 3rd place went to the Criss Cross Stopper to prevent rubbish getting into the oceans, 2nd place went to the Apol Cards for access to special carriages for people with disabilities, and 1st place went to the Doggy Dung Disposal where they provided dung bags, food, and water to help care for pets in public spaces without damaging the environment. Dignity unveiled: Exploring justice as the essence of every individual

A Mary Ward Justice Forum

Tuesday, 24 October

5:30pm - 7:30pm

Please join us for refreshments and conversation with our guest speakers and facilitator from 5:30pm. Presentation to begin at 6:00pm.

The Mary Ward Justice Forum is an annual collaboration between Loreto Normanhurst and Loreto Kirribilli exploring and promoting issues of justice in line with the values and teachings of Mary Ward and the Loreto Sisters.

The inherent dignity of each individual is a fundamental principle that underscores the essence of human rights and justice. In this thought-provoking forum, we will delve into this profound concept looking in our own backyard and the need for increased rights for all.

Hear from three distinguished guest speakers, Sister Jwan Kada ibvm, Richard Korkor and Catherine Knox, facilitated by Emma Simkin who will guide us through an exploration of this multifaceted topic, offering valuable insights from different perspectives and shedding light on the often marginalised of society – those in prison, women and children.

In a world that often races ahead, we have the opportunity to pause and reflect on a fundamental truth that unites us all – the intrinsic worth that resides within every human being.
