"Last week on Monday, the Primary Social Justice Crew went up to the Secondary School to work with their Justice Club. It was a very creative session and the windows became our whiteboard as we explored the areas of sustainable ideas that we could do in the future to help our planet! Some of the fantastic ideas included using dishwashers instead of running water and sponges, wearing a jumper instead of using heaters, turning lights off when you don't need them and using reusable bags and containers. Then we got to use our creativity by drawing, to bring our ideas to life! Everyone couldn't wait to put their amazing ideas up on the windows so everybody could see them. We are excited to connect more with the Secondary School and share our ideas to make the world a cleaner, greener place."
Sophia and Heidi, Year 5
"On Thursday, 3 August the Primary School had our Athletics Carnival. It was a very exciting day for everyone. Everyone showed wonderful house spirit and dressed up in their house colour. Even if you didn’t place in your races, you still got a house point for participating.
We started with all the long-distance running, then did the short distance races. When all the running races were finished, we rotated through long jump, shot put and discus in our houses. It was a lot of fun! At the end, the fastest 8 girls competed in the ‘Queen of the Track’ race, which was won by Juliet in Year 6. Finally, we did our loud house cheers which was incredible and energetic! Then, we got the bus back to school. Overall, it was a great day. Thank you to the Sports Department who organised our fun day!"
Audrey and Aarya, Year 5
"During the morning we had a guest speaker, and she was very nice to tell us about her job as a minster. Minister Rowland told us about how being a minister was very hard and she had a very busy schedule every day, including the weekends sometimes. She also told us some of her main responsibilities. One thing that stood out to me was that with her team and others they were able to block one billion scam calls and texts."
Jamie, Year 6
"Minister Rowland came to Year 6 to talk about parliament. She is the Minister of Communications and she told us about all the different media platforms that she covers like Netflix, social media, the post and the phone towers. She taught us that over the past few years her and her team have prevented 1 billion scam calls and messages from reaching our phones. The Minister of Communications is also responsible for communicating with other countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The talk was really intriguing and interesting."
Ann, Year 6
Some of our outstanding students have been helping others in various community programs with Kids Giving Back.
Over 1400 young people participated to help produce over 8500 hot meals, salads, fruit kebabs, breakfast boxes, snack packs and care packs with empathetic, positive messages, which were distributed to 15 charities around Sydney and 1800 servings of soup were served twice-weekly at a soup kitchen.
Their exceptional leadership qualities, compassion, and strong sense of civic responsibility is truly inspiring and a testament to our Loreto values.
Thank you to the following Loreto Normanhurst students:

Well done to our Primary Athletics Team who competed at the Barker Invitational Carnival this week. The girls’ effort was incredible, and it was a great experience before the IPSHA Carnival in a few weeks.
"On Friday, 11 August, the Year 5 and 6 Aerobics Teams traveled down to Adelaide to compete in the National Championships for Aerobics. We were all very excited and up for the challenge! On Saturday, we all arrived with our costumes on, and our hair braided ready for our performances. After we performed, we were very puffed and extremely tired. Once we had a one-hour break, we were ready for awards. Both teams didn't place but, we all tried our best. Year 6 came 4th and Year 5 came 6th. Everyone loved it and enjoyed the amazing experience. We are all definitely doing aerobics next year! It was such an amazing opportunity, and we are extremely thankful for our coaches and parents for waking up early to drive us to aerobics!"
