Important School Reminders

Kieryn Bateman | Acting Deputy Principal

Pedestrian access at footbridge gate

As you may recall, late in 2022 we made significant changes to our Traffic Management Plan to improve access to our site.  At the time we determined that it was necessary to close the gate to the footbridge on Pennant Hills Road. We have since undertaken some work on our internal Link Road and added an additional pedestrian crossing to provide access to the footbridge gate.  As such, we will reopen this gate to enable pedestrian access to the footbridge from Monday 1 May 2023.  The gate will be open before and after school and locked for safety reasons during the school day.  We ask parents who utilise the Link Road PUDO to be mindful of this additional pedestrian crossing and to adhere to the 10km speed limit at all times.

Additional information about our Traffic Management Plan can be accessed here.

We thank you for your ongoing support of this plan and your commitment to ensuring the safety of our community.

School Zone Road Safety

Council’s aim is to educate our school community to encourage active travel, safe driving and parking to keep everybody safe and healthy.
Council teams work together where possible and partner with NSW Police, Transport for NSW and schools to solve issues within school zones.
Addressing school zone traffic issues is more successful when a school and Council forms a partnership and collaborates. This allows both organisations to work together to achieve an effective outcome for everyone.

ANZAC Day Commemorations

Anzac Commemorative March - Sunday, 23 April

On Sunday, 23 April it was the centenary of the original dedication of the Hornsby Cenotaph with RSL Hornsby Sub-Branch conducting the ANZAC Sunday March. Read below some reflections from students who attended.

This was an amazing experience as we learnt more about Anzac Day and gave thanks to those who served our country. One of my favourite parts of this experience was marching alongside the war veterans who fought in battles to protect our country. The day was also very special as it was the one hundredth anniversary of the ANZAC war memorial in Hornsby. I was very proud to be there and represent our school, Loreto Normanhurst, and listen to the different prayers which were all acknowledging and hoping for different things.

Eliana F

The ANZAC service was a stunning service where we remembered the soldiers who fought in war. It started off with a march where we marched up the street, and some of the soldiers who were previously in war were there too. In the service we sang the New Zealand and Australian anthem, and we also said the Ode. I learnt a lot during the service about what happened during the war and how many people died. I didn’t know as much about the war before. The service made me feel thankful and grateful that the soldiers were so brave to go into war and serve their country, knowing they may lose their lives, and many did.

Anzac Day Dawn Service

From marching to wreath laying, the Dawn Service was the best experience. This was my first time ever attending a dawn service on Anzac Day and it really engaged with me. It was engaging because we got to participate in the march at the start and listen to the soldiers that served our country. In the ceremony, there was a part where we had to lay wreaths around the plaque of fallen local soldiers. Some schools and the community laid wreaths to not only represent themselves or school but to commemorate the soldiers who fought for us to have a better life in Australia. Overall, it was the most amazing experience to represent our school at the dawn service.

Amelia V

After getting up super early, me and a few other girls from Loreto made our way down the Hornsby RSL and the surrounding road. First, we had the march, where the Australian troops and veterans lined up and were marching in front of us. We then stood on the road in lines while watching and reflecting on the dawn service and the ANZACS who gave up their lives in war. Later in the service everyone (including us) were invited to place their wreath on the war memorial. It was an honour to go and represent Loreto Primary at the Hornsby Dawn Service.
